Mishaps and misadventures

With nearly two centuries of history, the Rafael Verdera has seen her fair share of adventures… and a few misadventures too, worth telling in their own right.

The sea isn’t always friendly, and the wind doesn’t always favour us. Over the years, we’ve had sails tear mid-voyage, surprise collisions, and the occasional storm that has put both the boat and her crew to the test.

Once, a misjudged manoeuvre in port ended with an unexpected knock against the quay. On another occasion, a sudden storm forced us to seek emergency shelter in an unfamiliar cove, dodging waves that seemed determined to swallow us whole.

But, as with any good story, every incident taught us something, resulting in a strengthening of the sailboat’s structure and, more importantly, the spirit of those who sail her.

Today, every little ‘disaster’ is part of the Rafael Verdera’s legend. They’re the scars that remind us that the sea gives nothing for free… yet always gives us back more than it takes.
